System Architecture & Requirements

DataSmart® is implemented on Microsoft's .Net framework using the VB.Net and C#.Net languages. It utilizes Sibilo's technological strengths, such as rapid application development capabilities using SSDM, as well as an intuitive user interface, which has been designed in collaboration with a consortium of public sector organisations.

NEW - Request Manager v2 has a standalone installation package that installs the below components with a MS Access database on a single computer.

 Web Server

Requests for information are captured via a web interface on your Intranet. We install a simple .Net project on your Web Server and customize it to your corporate identity. The web server needs to be running .Net framework 1.1 and IIS 5.0 (or above) on a Windows® 2000 Server (or above). Data subjects / citizens can also use this interface via the Internet should you wish to allow it access from outside, in which case a firewall is recommended.

 Database Server

Requests are then stored on your Database Server. The system can work with any ODBC compliant database; however, SQL Server 2000 or Oracle 9i (or above) are strongly recommended as DataSmart® supports direct access to the .Net data providers for these databases, providing a faster solution.

 Application Server

The only other machine that uses the Database is the Application Server, which should be running .Net framework 1.1 and IIS 5.0 (or above) on a Windows® 2000 Server (or above).

• A link to the Database Server (e.g. TCP/IP Named pipe for SQL Server) should be provided.
• Application Server sends email reminders to the users; therefore, access to an SMTP Server through an authorised user account is also required.
• Should you wish to keep web logging separate from your Intranet and run DataSmart® as a separate system; the Web Module can be installed on the Application Server.
• Clients access the Application Server using .Net Remoting via a port of your choice.

 Clients

Requirements for Client installations are minimal: clients should be running Windows 98 (or above) or Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 (or above) with .Net framework 1.1 installed and connected to the local area network.

Clients only communicate with the Application Server and do not access the database automatically.

 Integration

DataSmart® is implemented using a 5-tier architecture, allowing it to be a reliable and a truly scalable solution. This architecture also enables DataSmart® to be easily integrated with other systems such as CRM applications, publication schemes, user lists, etc.

If you are after rapid deployment, Sibilo can do the integration for you. Should you wish to do it in-house, we encourage this as well by providing access to and support for the business logic layer and the host server layer, which are at the heart of the system. This allows you to enhance your in-house developments using some of the functionality DataSmart® provides, without the trouble of understanding the database structure and learning how to use it.
